Things To Do In Bay Of Plenty

The Bay of Plenty is a stunning bight along the north coast of North Island, New Zealand. It is renowned for its magnificent coastline and abundance of marine wildlife.

Whether you want to spend some time exploring, wish to relax with family, or fancy seeing some wondrous wildlife, here are just some of the things to do in Bay of Plenty.

SEE THE MARINE WILDLIFE

If you want to see Orcas, pilot whales, humpback whales, and dolphins, then this is definitely the place to visit. As well as these large and impressive fish, huge schools of mackerels, tuna and kahawai can often be seen as they break the surface, creating quite a spectacle.

If you prefer birds or mammals, then there are New Zealand fur seals, gulls, shags, gannets, petrels, albatrosses and even penguins to view, all of which have their own unique beauty.

There are numerous marine life tours operating in the area. These are great as the tour guide will be able to tell you so much about the local flora and fauna.

GO FOR A HIKE ON TAURANGA’S MOUNT MAUNGANUI

The Mount Maunganui walk is definitely one of the best things to do in Bay of Plenty and offers an excellent challenge for those who enjoy hiking. The trails at the start of the mount are fairly easy and beginner-friendly, but if you prefer something more taxing, then the higher trails get quite steep.

Don’t want to hike just for the sake of it? Well, the view from the summit is quite astounding and is well worth the effort. You won’t regret it!

SKYDIVE OVER SOME OF THE MOST EXQUISITE SCENERY IN NEW ZEALAND

When you are looking for things to do in Bay of Plenty, skydiving should definitely be something that’s on your list.

If you love adventure sports then you will adore the thrill of skydiving. The rush of the wind on your face and the freedom of just being in the air is hard to explain and is something that definitely needs to be experienced if you love an adrenaline rush.

If that’s not enough, during the pre-jump flight you will get enough time to take in the beauty of the area from above.

RIDE A RIVERBUG

In case you are unfamiliar with it, a Riverbug is a single-person inflatable craft that you paddle using webbed gloves and flippers. Riverbugs are fun, safe, and easy to use.

Riverbugs are an excellent new way to experience the white-water rapids. There are different options available depending on your expertise and what kind of experience you’re after. Whether you want a fast, thrill-a-minute ride or a scenic family-friendly one, there will be something to meet your needs.

Cole was a really good guide, talked us through everything and had a good laugh. The water was nice, not cold at all. They provide wetsuits, footwear, helmets, life jackets and polo fleeces. Worth the money and would do it again. Recommend going in a group so that you can split the cost of photos.
