Are you planning to go on holiday soon? If so, then it might be worthwhile to consider how you can make your holiday more eco-friendly. After all, there are growing concerns about climate change and global warming, and the tourism industry also has an impact on it – think, travel (airplanes, tourist waste etc.).
So, how exactly can you make your holiday more eco-friendly? Fortunately, we have compiled a list of 3 tips on how you can do this. Don’t stop reading!
1) Don’t fly
Although easier said than done, you don’t necessarily need to leave the country in order to go on holiday. New Zealand offers a wide range of places to visit, and it is unlikely that you have visited every nook and cranny of the country. Flying can emit large amounts of carbon dioxide, especially if you plan on travelling far from New Zealand. So, don’t!
2) Take the train, coach, or other public transport
Public transport, whether that is a train or coach, produces less carbon emissions compared to using your own private car for the trip – after all, you’re sharing the travel with others who might be going to the same destination as you. If you do decide to use your own car, it would be better for the environment if you used an electric one compared to one that is powered by petrol or diesel. Nonetheless, you will no doubt be able to travel around using public transport – it might be slightly inconvenient, but it is friendlier to the environment.
3) Eco-friendly attractions and activities
Visiting eco-friendly attractions is another way in which you can make your holiday enjoyable with a minimal environmental impact. In particular, nature-related activities will usually be more eco-friendly compared to going to a theme park! Instead of going to a shopping centre, you might want to consider rafting on the Kaituna River instead. Not only is it a unique experience, but it is also an eco-friendly one.
