  It was a sunny but cold winter day when me and a mate decided to do the whitewater rafting on the Kaituna River. I had done the Grade 3-4 Rangitaiki… read more River rafting and he had done the Grade 3 Tongariro River rafting but it was our first time doing the Grade 5 Kaituna River run. Naturally we had some trepidation going into it particularly at the thought of going over the 7 meter drop but the guides were professional and calmly reassured us. Once we were in the water he ran through the etiquette of rowing and what do do as we go over the falls. He also explained what we should do in the event that we end up falling off the raft or the raft flipping as we go over the waterfall. Which was fortunate as our raft tipped us all into the roaring base of Tutea Falls and everyone managed to get back safe into the raft. It was a fun and action packed day, would definitely do again!
